More About IPT

IPT is a 4-step process that utilizes behavioral kinesiology and the intelligence of the body to identify the age of origination where past unresolved trauma needs to be addressed. IPT is a blend of many modalities including behavioral kinesiology, guided imagery, role play, inner child work, visualization, and an in-depth study of psycho-neuro immunology. IPT is organized in such a way that it assists the client in working through and releasing toxic emotions and outdated belief systems.

How does IPT relate to current healing methods and techniques? IPT is in line with the foremost trauma treatments of the day. These modalities include, but are not limited to, the trauma work of Bessel van der Kolk, M.D. and Janina Fisher, Ph.D. and brings healing through the blending of many methods including:

  • Behavioral Kinesiology (John Diamond, M.D.)

  • Languages and clears emotions

  • Identifies schemas (Jeffrey Young, Ph.D.)

  • Works with parts of self (Richard Schwartz, Ph.D.)

  • Brings somatic resolution (Peter Levine, Ph.D.)

  • Taps into the power of mindfulness (Jon Kabat- Zinn, Ph.D.)

  • Heightens sensorimotor body awareness (Pat Ogden, Ph.D. and Mary Jo Barrett)

  • Reinforces psychoeducation that helps clients understand the science behind the healing capability of the brain

IPT or Integrative Processing Technique allows you to heal the emotional scar tissue around your strongest fears, your hidden pain, your stuffed anger, your deep burning shame, and your most traumatic experiences. Participating in IPT can facilitate true resolution in your heart and make space for peace. It is able to reach the untouchable feelings, and allow you to feel seen, heard, and validated. It is effective in easing the burdens developed through experiencing the most intense trauma or simply the day-to-day grind of life. It can clear away the static and allow you to be more present in your life.

IPT can also help with implicit memories that only come out as body memories and internal distress. People that have suffered from ritual abuse have had great success with this modality. IPT can help locate old programming that is stored in your body and release it, making room for truth and light.

Every experience and every feeling is registered and stored by the brain and body as information or data. The brain and body compile that data and draw conclusions. These conclusions are made with the intent to protect us. We learn that fire hurts when it burns, certain food tastes better than others, and more. But we are also processing emotional data that the brain tries to make sense of from a very young age, even in utero.

If those conclusions are negative or imbalanced, we will begin to expect negativity or imbalance from the rest of our life experience. Again, this is all done in an attempt to protect ourselves and those we love.

If those conclusions are never updated, they are still active. This means that if you had a difficult and confusing experience when you were 2 years old, and you have never addressed the conclusions you came to at that age, then your current self will be processing adult situations through the filter created by a 2-year-old. You may also react like a 2-year-old. You may get loud, have explosive anger, be defensive, judgmental, or feel threatened. Or you may suffer from anxiety or crippling perfectionism.

Living life then can feel difficult, overwhelming, and maybe even impossible. Relationships could feel tenuous or dangerous. Your self-image might be suffering. The future may seem unwinnable. Maybe you think that being financially stable or successful is impossible for someone like you. Communicating and being understood might feel unattainable.  This can change! It is within your power to heal. Your quality of life can drastically improve.

IPT and Traditional Therapies

The Integrative Processing Technique can help to support and further the work of those in traditional counseling or therapy. IPT itself is not traditional counseling or therapy, in that it does not include diagnosing and/or prescribing medication. Instead, IPT is associated with psycho-neuro immunology (PNI). This science focuses on how our thoughts and feelings affect our health.
